A man who had lost his bony structures which included his nose, tissues and palate underwent a face transplant operation which is the second done in the US. It was a 17 hour procedure which was done by a team of plastic surgeons. The injuries cannot be categorized as life threatening but their job was of life giving nature. After the donor was identified and the characteristics such as age, skin color and tissue were matched the operations were carried on in two operating theatres one of the donor and the other of the patient. The two major concerns now are infection and the risk of blood clotting.
