An earthquake of a magnitude of 6.3 hit the medieval city of L’Aquila on Monday morning leaving 30,000 people homeless. A mass state funeral was held on Friday for the victims in the open air. The complete areas bishops and cardinals along with the Italian Prime Minister were present with over 100 priests attended the mass. Mourners gathered together and prayed for the victims. It will take several years to recover from the shock and loss and to build back the city to normalcy. Aftershocks were felt even on the day of the funeral. This is the worst major earthquake to hit Italy in the last seven years and the deadliest of all decades.
